10 Signs Your Toddler Rules The House

I recently told my friends that I quit on tidying up our house.I cannot do it anymore. I quit. I know they say that let our kids be little…so I am letting Ellie be. For parents who got toddlers… I know that deep in your hearts you sincerely understand and you’re slowly nodding your head because you know…you know… what made me quit – tidying up.

Ellie owns the house – the car and even our bed. She rules the house and we are not complaining.

IMG_95081)Her stuff are everywhere.  Currently our little one owns more or less 10 stuff animals –  majority are bears and they are not small bears, one giant unicorn, tons of balls plus a play tent. Plus the tiny trinkets that she considers as treasures like keychains, keys and pens etc. and there’s no place inside our house and car even, that you cannot find a trace of her. It’s like she’s leaving them… to mark her territory.

2)You cannot finish ONE task easily. She knows what she wants and sometimes she wants what you want. I was doing the laundry the other day and Ellie joined me by putting out the clothes out of the hamper and brought them to our living room. I was dusting the shelves inside our room and she helped me by throwing out the books on the floor.

3)Food everywhere. Biscuits on the sofa. Rice on the bed.Juice spills on the floor and the list goes on.

4)One of the corners of the house is an extension of a play area. It’s Ellie’s corner. I imagined her going there to play and read her books, solve puzzles and other toddler activities. Now, I know that it’s all in my head… so much for my imagination…refer to item number 1.

5) Remember when you have glass and ceramic stuff at home? They are now PLASTIC. We bought colourful  utensils and glasses and even plates for her. Safety first.

6) Your TV channel preferences switched from News to Kids channel. Just like how you’re reading rhymes and storybooks when by heart you love novels and newspapers and fashion magazines!

7) The corners are no longer there. Again, another safety precaution. Toddlers love to run around  and defy the laws of physics and other laws of the universe.

8) The top shelves are full. There are times when we want everything on display – vases, picture frames, we even opt for a clock table instead of regular one. Now everything fragile, shiny and nice to look at, are all placed way up the cupboards or hidden somewhere little-miss-I-want-to-play-with-it cannot see.

9) Prints and writings everywhere. There’s no need for me to elaborate on this. I know that it is sometimes funny to see her prints in places we didn’t expect but what should we do… she is a toddler.

10)Adults in the house are either ninjas or prone to mini-heart attacks. Ellie started to jump from the sofa and our hearts jump with her too. She learned how to snatch the glass from the table –  with our hearts attached to it as well. She acts as if she is going to fall from the bed and I know she will fall from the bed that’s when my inner ninja comes out. Adults begin to have great reflexes at home.

But hey, after all the mess and mini heart-attacks, our house is filled with joy and laughter every single day. And sooner or later we will be missing these crazy moments with them.

What are your toddlers up to and how are you coping? :)

[MrsTags reviews] Pockit Stroller

We don’t want to spoil Ellie when it comes to material things but we don’t want to sacrifice – quality, convenience and comfort that some material things offer. Recently we were in search for a compact, easy to expand and adjust stroller for her. The stroller that we got her makes her uncomfortable because the heat gets trapped on the pads making her sweaty and irritated most of the time. Don’t get me wrong we LOVE that Hauck stroller very much and it is with us even before she’s born.

My first choice is the Juniors Scooty Baby Buggy  I found in Babyshop. The price is very affordable at AED 149. This buggy systems has 5 point Harness system. It is also Compact and lightweight for storage  and features an umbrella style easy-to-fold system.  I love the price but I had a hard time adjusting and expanding it and it is still bulky – my husband wants a space-saving stroller this time.

We also looked at Maclaren, Chicco,  and Joie travel systems – these brands offers different options – some of the models are not as lightweight as I expected. The price ranges from AED 200 – AED 1600. Then my husband found the GB Pockit Stroller and that’s the end of the story.

The FOLDED GB Pockit Stroller

True to it’s description – lightweight folding champion! All we have to do is to just click on the buttons located on the handle and we can easily fold the whole thing and what amazes me is the size after it is folded.  In only two steps the buggy becomes a compact and feather-light handbag-shaped package –   30 x 18 x 35 cm to be precise.  Tags loved it and I know my husband when he wants something – he’ll test it and inspect all of the details and will even do online research about it. We found out that it has won awards and it won our approval too! If you’re interested you can check out Babyshop for this great find or you can visit online shops like mumzworld. I made several transactions with them before and everything went smoothly – from ordering to delivery.

When it comes to our kids safety we always do our own research (like what my husband did!) to check reviews and product ratings too. I checked one post from MomStrollerReviews.com : Mom’s Picks: Top 20 Best Strollers for 2017. It is a good read since the author of the post concentrates on practicality a little more than style. :)

What stroller are you using? What are the special feature that you like about it?

#MomGoals

Motherhood – changes your perspective in general – your taste in food, music, color and even the TV programs that your binging on every weekend (that is..if you have time). Your Pinterest boards changed from Fashion to Kids and Parenting. Family becomes the vital part of motherhood. More often than not, mothers tend to prioritize family over themselves. So for today I want to share my list of #MomGoals that I wrote. To each her own. Goal setting can be a helpful, exciting, and a reinvigorating practice for mothers like us and women in general. :)

#MomGoals for Health and Beauty

Manatiling maganda sa kabila ng lahat.

  • Eat healthy – watch what you eat and be wary of what it will do to your body.
  • Exercise even when you’re at home. You don’t have to be inside a gym to work -out, there are tons of exercises that we can always follow online.
  • Take care of your skin, nails and hair. Treat yourself with creams, lotions and vitamins even essential oils that are good for our body. The good thing about essential oils is that it is usually cost-effective and the results are amazing.
  • Be your best fresh self.
  • Smile and be positive.

#MomGoals for Career and Self-Development

  • Read. There are lots of benefits when you develop the habit of reading. One of the advantages is, it increases our vocabulary and makes us a lot more articulate. PLUS: It melts away stress.
  • Write a blog – like this. Write for yourself – the audience will come sooner or later. From time to time we need to look for a way to express ourselves I know other moms who paint or compose songs or cook and bake as a way of self expression.
  • Try something new – whether a new restaurant, movie genre, recipe or even a fashion trend. Trying something new makes you know yourself more and it helps you widen the range of your choices too.
  • Learn something technical. This one… is in my bucket list – and I am proud to say that I learned and I am still putting it into practice. :) Not because you already have a family to tend to means you’re no longer allowed to learn things.

#MomGoals Family and Relationships

  • Break that techie habit. Hurray! I am (we) on it. Since we are doing our best to limit Ellie’s exposure and use of gadgets ,we also limit ourselves in using gadgets whenever we are at home or with family.
  • Say I LOVE YOU. Expressing love and care to our family members is a must. It exudes positive vibes at home and nourish relationships 100% of the time :)
  • Cook and/or bake for them.
  • Family time = quality time. Don’t go out for dinners or arcade time just for the sake of having one. Make sure that we are giving a quality bonding with them.
  • Find a good family activity that everyone will enjoy. :)

Reading my thoughts here are very easy – doing and incorporating these with our daily routine is a different story. Although we are setting goals that we want to accomplish – dedication and focus is needed 100% of the time. The challenge is how are we going to overcome the hurdles that might get in our way to do it.

What are your #MomGoals?

Tips when you’re travelling with a toddler :)

And we’re back from our short and sweet vacation. It’s funny how I felt like we’re just packing our bags yesterday.  Last year I wrote Tips when you’re travelling with a baby :) What I wrote there were based on my personal experiences just like what I am going to write for us today.

IMG_1850

We are making it a habit that we have to dine together before travelling :)

I just realized that as our babies steps into toddlerhood the amount of stuff that they need will be twice their age. When we travelled last year, Ellie is just 9 months old – we packed all of the basics and some additional things that might help but now – we packed the BASICS, what she wanted and stuff that kept her entertained and comfortable during the whole trip. Take note that whatever it is that we took with us… has a sole purpose – minimize any unwanted attention that might arise during our 9-hours flight. Ellie was 21 months when we left.

FOOD and lots of CLOTHES

As a mom – her food and clothes are my priorities.  Comfortable clothes and 3 more sets of clothes for “something happened” moments. The footwear should be comfortable too. Comfortable shoes lessens the “carry-me-daddy” situation. When it comes to food – we packed up  biscuits/cookies that she likes. Fruit bites and juices WITH straw. The straw reduces spills and the mess that might happen on board. We are loaded with milk and her water too. The funny thing with our little one – she prefers to eat what we are eating…so I am eating her stuff too :)

WIPES and SANITIZERS

Wet wipes and hand sanitizers … don’t forget these. These are  necessities and LIFE-SAVERS. I also bought this Evian Mineral Water Facial Baby Spray. It helps us during her nappy changes and I used this to clean her face and hands. I don’t know how… but toddlers have the amazing ability to be messy.

EMERGENCY KIT

Medicines, band-aids, insect repellant and a little bottle of alcohol in a zip-locked bag. The medicines are not only meant for Ellie – but for me and my hubby too. Whenever we travel we always make sure that we are all feeling well. It’s a nightmare to go on a trip when you’re sick.

HER FAVORITE TOY + a gadget she cannot refuse.

After giving her a lot of options to choose from… Ellie decided to bring her Minnie Mouse stuff toy with her for our vacation. We encourage her to read books and write using a pen and paper but that’s on a regular day – since we are travelling we’ve decided to allow her to use the tablet – we downloaded – baby games and puzzles and other educational applications that she can explore. Take note that this is our last resortand we weren’t able to use this during our flight back and forth because she ate, looked outside the window – watched a bit of Moana and fell asleep.

IMG_2541

Ellie and her Trunki – Benny the Cat.

We also invested on a Trunki for Ellie and she loves it and the idea that she got her own bag to carry. At first she didn’t want to ride or even pull it..but you know how toddlers are. We didn’t bring any strollers with us because at her age right now – sitting is an enemy.  We also brought a neck pillow for her to keep her comfortable during the flight.

A happy baby is equal to a happy trip. I know parents like me prepare a lot of things and rituals just to make sure that their child will not have any problems – keeping them warm, safe and comfortable during their trip. Our toddlers are also adjusting to the environment and if it is an unfamiliar territory we have to help them to cope up with it.

When traveling with toddlers, It is really important to choose the right flights and fly at the right time of the day. We choose the late afternoon flight (4-6pm). Since Ellie’s nap time is around 11am-12pm or 1-2pm, if we fly in the late afternoon there’s a huge probability that she will miss her nap time.  And we prayed to God that that she will be tired enough to fall asleep on the flight – and she did :)

To each his own. Parents know what’s best for their kids and we just have to trust ourselves that we are doing what’s best for them always.

Share the love. How do you manage your travel experiences with toddlers in tow?

Do you have any tips on keeping them busy while you’re on the go?

Rose Water for Skin Care.

Being the lazy me – I really don’t spend a lot of time for vanity. I have high regards for beauty – nice hair, skin… – basically I admire those people who really scores an A when it comes to outside appearance.

When I became a mother I realized that there’s a need to look after myself like how I look after my husband and our baby. It’s true how motherhood changes you – emotionally, spiritually and the most noticeable of them all – physically. Since I don’t splurge on beauty products (thank God for Tags who is my beauty products supplier) I try to practice a cost-effective beauty regimen (thank you Pinterest!)

rose-736873_640

I will be sharing with you one of my favourites beauty ingredient – R O S E W A T E R. You read it right… I used the word ingredient, because it is used for food and to flavour some drinks. Few cosmetic items and toners that I checked have rose water in it too.

Rose-Water-3-400x400Rosewater is very fragrant liquid. According to research, it has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that hydrates the skin. I’ve got a very problematic skin. I use to have breakouts here, there and everywhere. It is good for people like me who are acne prone because it helps calm the skin.

I just pour a small amount of chilled rose water on a cotton ball and swipe over my face right after cleansing with a mild soap. So instead of buying chemically infused toners I am just using this as an alternative. It will close the open pores and make the skin give off a pleasant floral fragrance. To refresh my eyes I also put rosewater-soaked cotton on my under eye. If you don’t want to directly apply the water to your skin, you can add a few drops to your cream before applying it.

Rose water also helps to revitalise ageing skin. Meaning it reduces wrinkles and fine lines. Huda Heidi Kattan – one of the popular beauty influencers blogged about rosewater for gorgeous skin in her website.

Adding rosewater to your shampoo can promote hair growth – it can also soothe the scalp and helps to get rid of dandruff. In this hot weather scalp irritation is very common. Don’t worry about the scent because it smells really nice.

Just to sum it up Rose water can give us these amazing things:

  • Shiny hair
  • Lighten scars
  • Tighten pores
  • Soothe eyes
  • Purify our skin
  • Prevent breakouts

You can also try this DIY facial mask that I tried with the use of rosewater and some stuff that are also found inside our kitchen.

SKIN SOOTHING MASK

  • 1 pc cucumber – chilled.
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Drops of rose water
  1. Grate or blend cold cucumbers add honey.
  2. Add few drops of rosewater
  3. Before applying wash your face with warm water.
  4. Pat dry and apply the mask. Wait for it to dry and rinse.
  5. Do it once a week

INSTANT GLOW MASK

The 3 main ingredients –turmeric, baking soda + rose water alone can work wonders. These help fight free radicals that speed up aging. I tried turmeric and honey before it is also effective!!!

  • 1tsp Turmeric
  • 1tsp pure baking soda
  • Pure Rose water: Just enough to make a paste with toothpaste consistency.
  1. Mix everything. Make sure that it is pasty.
  2. Apply it on your face and wait for it to dry. Your face mask will be yellow-orange then a bit pinkish after some time.
  3. Wash your face with warm water followed by cold water to close the pores.

I hope this skincare post helps you too. Let me know if you tried these two or even just one and share with me the results. Skin care doesn’t have to be expensive as long as it works for us in maintaining both our health and beauty.

Share the love, give me some cost-effective beauty tips too!
